Bassman, Earl, age 92 passed away on August 23, 2016. Earl was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on 12/02/23 to the late Fred and Alice (Masminster) Bassman. He was preceded in death by his son Curt, son-in-law Mike Geer, brother Fred and sister-in-law Betty Bassman. He is survived by son Scott (Debbie), daughter Sharon Geer, loved entrusted life partner Marge, former wife Mary Bassman, many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also, Earl's extended family includes his nephew Todd and Wendy Bassman, Kyle and Christian Bassman of Cincinnati and niece Donna and Randy Sprinkle of Atlanta, GA.
Earl graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1942. In 1943 he was inducted into the US Army and proudly served with the 28th Infantry Division in Normandy, France, where he was wounded and then returned to the US. After months of treatment and rehabilitation, he was honorably discharged in April 1945. The 28th (Bloody Bucket Division) was the lead Division to enter and liberate Paris from the Germans. He was awarded the "Purple Heart" and the French Victory Medal. In 1949 he graduated from University of Cincinnati in Business Administration. His first employer was the Internal Revenue Service working in Dayton as a Revenue Agent. Later he transferred to WPAFB and worked as a systems accountant, from where he retired. For over 50 years he has operated Bassman & Associates Tax Consultants at 1201 W. Hillcrest Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Associated with the office for most of the 50 years were Larry & Helen Mutschler, Joe Edly, Scott & Debbie Bassman and Sharon Geer. Many of our current clients include 3rd generation family members. They are more than clients. They are our friends.
Earl enjoyed all sports. Over the years he attended many sporting events. From birth he was a Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. He was one of the first to purchase season tickets for the Dayton Dragons. He believed that the Dayton Dragons are one of the best things to happen in Dayton. Earl was a long time member of the Twin Base Golf Course. Earl was always available to help his grandchildren, as he did many times. Earl was a friend to everyone. For him there was no such thing as a stranger.
A special thanks to his doctor, Dr. Steve Swedlund who put up with him for over 25 years and kept him alive.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Army Honor Guard. After burial, family will receive friends at Earl's house in Fairborn, Ohio.
