Durward L. Lewis, age 64, of Washington Township, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Hospice of Dayton. Durward was born February 19, 1946 in Morrow, Ohio to the late Russell and Geneva Lewis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Lewis; and sister-in-law, Phyliss Lewis.
Durward is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Ellie Parker Lewis; daughters, Jill (Greg) May, and Jennifer (Jason) Heys; grandsons, Aaron Lewis May, and Kane Quentin Heys; and many other relatives and friends.
Durward graduated from Little Miami High School, attended Ohio University, and graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
He was the humble recipient of the Carnegie Award for heroism, 1965.
He earned his pilots license at age 16, member AOPA. Organized air shows and flew acrobatic routines with his brother. He was the manager of the Springfield Airport. Accomplished and respected flight instructor. Flew corporate airplanes for Chiefs Int. Founder and partner of Parker Lewis Art & Frame. Published classic aviation books as BDKing Press. "Retired" Solid Gold Dancer.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 10-11am at St. Francis of Assisi (6245 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH 45459). The memorial service will follow at 11:00 am, with Father Tom Schmitz officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Hospice of Dayton or the Make a Wish Foundation.
