Douglas L. Black
Age 82, of Tipp City, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009.
Doug was born August 18, 1927 in Troy, Ohio to the last Earl & Mary Esther (Fieght) Black. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Terry L. Black; and by one sister, Jacqueline Wedhorn.
Doug is survived by his wife of the past 53 years, Betty A. (Prueter) Black; one daughter, Phyllis (Bill) Wholihan; one son, Roger (Joanna) Black; granddaughter, Caitlin Wholihan (& her fiancé, Sam Bernard); grandsons, Ryan (Jennifer), Brian, Jared, Brett and Brandon Black; one great grandson (Ramses Black) expected in October; one sister, Patricia (Bob) Forror; and by his extended family & many good friends.
Doug was a Jehovah's Witness active with the Vandalia Congregation. During WW II & Korea he served in the Merchant Marines and the U. S. Army. He retired from A. O. Smith as a machinist with 30 years of service in 1986. Doug was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hike and camp. He also was a talented woodworker.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday (10/5) at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m., until time of service.
The family suggests that contributions be made in memory of Doug to the Montgomery County Humane Society.
