Douglas A. Beem, age 73 of Xenia, passed away Saturday October 13, 2018 at his residence. Doug was born June 22, 1945 in Troy, OH. , the son of Robert and Violet Beem.
Doug was preceded in death by his Father, Robert E. Beem and his mother Violet J Beem; stepfather Graham Walley; and Grandson Nathan D. Beem.
Douglas is survived by Shirley A. Beem, his wife of fifty four years; two sons Daniel (Heather)Beem and Gregory (Elizabeth)Beem; step brother Randy (Susie) Beem; step sister Carol (Jim) Beem; step sister Linda Kluge; grandchildren Kristin, Jadyn, Maxwell, and Ellie.
Douglas and Shirley Beem (Tuck) were married September 11, 1964.
Doug worked as a flooring installer for many years and was the owner of Walley and Son Custom Floors in Beavercreek until he retired. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed small game hunting, especially rabbit and pheasant hunting. He loved to fish. He was a member of Elm Valley Fishing Club in New Carlisle for many years. He enjoyed living in the country out on Caesars Creek. He loved to mow and care for his yard and enjoyed the wildlife (particularly the birds and deer) that surrounded the acreage the family grew up on. He enjoyed mushroom hunting with his family and friends. Doug was always the life of the party and had a contagious laugh and told the best stories. He spent many hours fishing and enjoyed the outdoors. He had a special love for Northern Michigan and always had fond stories to tell from those trips. He passed that love for Northern Michigan on to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Doug was also an avid auto racing fan. He spent many hours at the track, often being one of the first fan's to arrive at the track. He spent most weekends at the track and made many trips to Florida for speed weeks in February. He enjoyed working on the race car with son's Greg and Dan when Greg was successfully racing dirt modified's at many tracks throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. He loved spending time with the family at the race shop and on race weekends.
Doug was always friendly to everyone and always smiling. He will be missed and remembered by so many.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A memorial service will be follow the gathering at 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
