Dorothy May Thomas

September 14, 1952 — September 4, 2024

Medway, Ohio

Dorothy May Thomas, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away peacefully in Dayton, Ohio, on September 4, 2024, at the age of 71, after a sudden illness. Born on September 14, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy’s outgoing spirit and warm heart made her a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her.

Dorothy graduated from Stivers High School in 1971 and dedicated 45 years of her life to serving the community at Miami Valley Hospital before she retired in 2014. Her colleagues and patients alike benefitted from her compassion and unwavering commitment, traits that resonated deeply with her nurturing nature.

Family was the cornerstone of Dorothy's existence, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She took immense pride in her children: JC Hamilton (Lisa), James Hamilton, and Dorothea Clayton (William). Alongside her children, she joyfully welcomed her grandchildren into her life—Brandon, Trent, Christina, Robbie, and Heavenleigh—each one treasured beyond measure. The joys of being a great-grandmother to Della and Mila filled her heart with indescribable love, creating a legacy of family bonds that will endure through generations. Dorothy also held her many nieces and nephews close to her heart, always eager to share in their lives and successes.

In addition to her devotion to family, Dorothy had a vibrant personality and never met a stranger. She loved bringing people together, particularly during family gatherings where laughter and love filled the air. She had a passion for playing BINGO and was a dedicated fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and The Ohio State Buckeyes, proudly cheering them on with a contagious enthusiasm. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her enjoyment of fishing, and she could often be found absorbed in watching sports and car racing, sharing those passions with her loved ones.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Geneva Hamilton, and her siblings, Randall, Linda, Nancy, and Kenny. Though they may have departed from this world, their memories will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

As the sun sets on Dorothy’s remarkable life, the legacy she leaves behind is one of unconditional love and connection. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her greatest accomplishments were not her years of service or her hobbies but rather the family she nurtured, the friendships she built, and the lasting impact she made on those around her. May her spirit continue to inspire love and kindness in the hearts of her family and friends.
