On Saturday, January 9, 2021, Dorothy May (Pemberton) Kearney, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed at the age of 89. Dorothy was born on August 17, 1931 in Helenwood, Tennessee to Hopie Alice (Porter/Vertner) Pemberton and Henry Clay Evans Pemberton. After attending Robbins High School in Robbins, Tennessee, she moved to Dayton, Ohio to raise a family and work in the grocery industry for over 4 decades. Dorothy raised her children with her former husband, George Clifton Kearney in the Overlook Homes. While working, she was active in the union and a union stewardess. She was an active member of her church, Northridge Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and watching her flowers bloom. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. Her greatest attributes were her infectious sweetness, industriousness, strength, independence and her ability to bless the hearts of many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hopie Alice (Porter/Vertner) Pemberton and Henry Clay Evans Pemberton, her former husband and father of her children, George Clifton Kearney, her late husbands, Robert Fouch and Delbert Wayman, her son, Ronald (Donna) Kearney, her daughter, Monaleesa Kearney, her sisters, Christine Pemberton, Irene (John) (Vertner) Clark and Mary Helen (Doug) (Pemberton) Clark, her brothers, Floyd (Josephine) Pemberton, Harold Pemberton, Henry (Helen/Emma) Clay Evans Pemberton Jr, Ernest Pemberton, Johnny Pemberton and Archie (Virginia) Glenn Pemberton Sr, her grandson, Myron Cox Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn (Kearney) Cox and Belinda (Kearney) Kender, her son, Hank Kearney, her granddaughters, Tina (David) (Kearney) Blair, Blush (Mike) (Kearney) Gorsen, Crystal (Chuck) (Cox) Zahn and Michelle (Ian) (Kender) Price, her grandsons, Paul (Linda) Kender and Miles Kearney, her great-grandchildren, Danielle Cox, Tyler Cox-Leach, Jessica (Simon) (Blair) Zyadet, Destiny Cox, Justin Blair, Aunika Price, Atticus Zahn, Zorianna Price, Hunter Gorsen and Molly Gorsen, her sisters, Shearly (Barney) (Pemberton) Shoemaker and Ynema (Rick) (Pemberton/Bowling) LaFuria, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be welcome at the viewing at the Centerville Newcomer Funeral Home on Wednesday, January, 13, 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
