Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother Dorothy Audrey Gooding, age 93 of Beavercreek, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born June 14, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Harry and Alice Winters.
Dorothy grew up in Wesleyville, Newfoundland and was the oldest of seven children. Our Dad's first encounter with the Winters family came when Mom's brother Reginald picked up Dad off the ice on Bonaventure Bay in Newfoundland and took him to the Army Weather Station during WWII. He was invited to dinner which is where Mom and Dad's lifelong romance began. They were married April 3, 1947 and Mom followed Dad to Dayton where they raised their two sons. They also built an extended family of Newfoundlanders who had moved to Dayton like Dale and Melveen Dunham, Bob and Marie Ballard and Jim and Rita Wood. We remember as kids listening to Mom's stories of growing up on the ocean and salting cod and helping her mother with the other children. Some of our fondest memories are of Mom and the "Newfies" playing cards and having fun teasing each other about who won which hand of the game called 120's. Mom and Dad enjoyed 61 years together and she missed him every day since his passing on June 18 2008.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Gooding; her parents; sisters, Delilah, Gloria & Clara; and brother, Reginald.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Chester Gooding & Mark (Teresa) Gooding; grandchildren, Marisa (Chris) Hogsten, Jameson Culbertson, Sarah (Will) Lane, Zachary (Monica) Gooding, Alicia Gooding & Kyle (Malory) Gooding; great grandchildren, Alaysia Culbertson, Ariana Culbertson, Ethan Culbertson, Kevin Lane, Luna Lane, Augie Gooding, Lydia Gooding, Tyler Hogsten and Shelby Hogsten; brothers, Junior (Ann) Winters & Fraser (Jan) Winters; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was a devout woman of faith. Mom's faith carried her through many trying times in her life and we know that now she in resting in our Lord's gentle hands.
