A precious one from us is gone.
The voice we have is still.
A place is vacant in our home,
That no one can ever fill.
Today we are honoring, celebrating and remembering Dorothy Mae Claytor Gipson.
Dorothy Mae was born on December 24, 1943 in Lorado, West Virigina to Bettie and Irvin Claytor Sr. She grew up in Lester, West Virginia and graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia in 1961. After high school, she moved to New York.
In New York, Dorothy worked in the Health Care Field as a Certified Home Health Aide. She was a woman of grace and courage, with a stubborn streak that showed up when she set her mind to something.
Dorothy met and married Grady Gipson in New York. After living in NY for some years, the family relocated to Dayton, Ohio. They became members of St. Timothy Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching Westerns and reading. Their home was always filled with children, which was her greatest joy. She loved children, and she loved to cook. There was always plenty for all.
Dorothy was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Gipson; her parents, Bettie and Irvin Claytor Sr.; two sisters, Retha Mae Jones and Helen Letsinger, and a brother, Irvin Claytor Jr.
She is survived by and will forever remain in the hearts of her children: Regina, Keith (Jackie), Kenneth, Grady, Joseph and nephew, Lance Mooney (her bonus son); a whole heap of grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty C. White and Harlima Mooney; 2 brothers, Willie Lee and Marcillous (Merlene) Claytor; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
