Dorothy Louise (Stallworth) Calhoun: Dorothy (Dottie) died quietly on July 22, 2022 with some family members at home in Dayton, Ohio, after a long struggle with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Dorothy was born October 25, 1931, in Beatrice, AL. to the late Lee Bonner Stallworth and Gabrella (Wallace) Stallworth.
She went to elementary school in Beatrice, AL., and attended Central High School in Louisville, KY. After high school she moved to Dayton, OH. where she met her future husband Fred D. Calhoun (deceased). Together there were eleven children: Carrie J. Horne of Novato, CA, Joyce Calhoun Revere of Dayton, OH, Lee H. (Joycelyn) Calhoun (deceased), William E. (Tanya) Calhoun of Hamilton, OH., Ras Roderick (Tatenda) Calhoun of Dayton, OH., Lawanda Calhoun (deceased), Frederick D. Calhoun of Dayton, OH., Vicky (Bruce) Harris of Oklahoma City, OK., Anthony D. Calhoun of Henderson, NV., Terry L. Hancock of Dayton, OH., and Rory Calhoun of Dayton, OH.
Dorothy worked for, and retired from, the U. S. Postal service in 1992 after 27 years of service. After retirement she spent many wonderful years enjoying life with friends and family. She loved sports and gaming and spent many years on the Postal Bowling team. A hobby of hers was knitting and crocheting blankets and hats.Dorothy was a beautiful soul who never met a stranger.
She is survived by sisters: Angeline S. Tanner of Dayton OH. and Anna L. (Lue) Stallworth of Centerville, Ohio; sisters-in-law: Susie Stallworth of Louisville, KY., Lula Robinson of Stamford, CT., and Beverly Stallworth of Colorado Springs, CO., and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Preceded in death by brothers James of Louisville KY., Augustus (Gus) of Dayton, OH., Clarence of Dayton, OH., William of Colorado Springs, CO., Charles F., of Los Angeles, CA., and sisters Flossie (Detroit MI.) and Lucy (deceased) Stallworth.
A celebration of her life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd., Huber Heights OH., 45424, August 13, 2022, at 3 p.m.
