Doris W. Quick

July 7, 1923 — February 11, 2019

Doris Quick, 95, was a longtime resident of Springfield. She spent most of her life in the area. From the hill of Pleasant Grove Chapel, where she was married in 1946, she could see several locations where she lived: Buffenbarger Road and two farms on North River Road. Nearby was the house on Possum Road, the last house that she lived in with her parents and which remains in the family. Just over the horizon were her first house on South Limestone and the house on S. Bird Road where she and her family resided for more than 62 years.

Doris Louise (Wise) Quick, second daughter and third child born to Jesse C. Wise and Louise (Skillings) Wise was born July 7, 1923. She had four siblings:
• Howard L. Wise (deceased).
• Marian Bernice Battin (Ray, deceased), Los Angeles, California.
• Jesseray Lamar Wise (deceased), Wapokoneta.
• Rhett S. Wise, Springfield, Ohio.

Doris went to Cross Roads Elementary School, Pitchin Elementary and Junior High School, and graduated in 1941 from Enon High School. She worked at Crowell-Collier, then International Harvester during World War ll, where she worked in the office and was involved in the production of half-track trucks for the military. After raising her family she enjoyed working with special needs children at TAC Industries for 21 years.

She married James L. Quick (deceased) in 1946 to whom she bore five children:
• Ronald (Vickie) Quick of Springfield.
• Diane Quick, Los Angeles, California.
• Gerald [or Jerry] Quick of Florida and Springfield.
• Brenda [or Suzy] (Bill) Marsh of Golden, Colorado.
• Lori Ann (Charleric) Lenglain of Forest Hills, New York.
Surviving are four grandchildren:
• Dean (Maegan) Loggins, Colorado.
• Melanie (Tony) House, Colorado.
• Gemma Quick, California.
• Alexander James Quick, Springfield, Ohio.
Two great grandchildren:
• Julian House, Colorado.
• Jasmin House, Colorado.
Two sisters-in-law:
• Pat (Ed) Richards.
• Laura Wise, Wapokoneta.
One step grandson, Jason (Melissa) Rupert, and one step granddaughter, Emilie Jeanne Lenglain.

Doris was very close to numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and was known for paying attention to birthdays and life events.

She wished that several special friends be remembered: Charlotte Reisinger, Barb Ridenour and Nick Loggins.

She was proud of the fact that she had ancestors in the American Revolution. Her eldest brother, Howard, did much research on the Skillings family. Her mother, Louise Skillings Wise, received recognition for being one of the First Families of Clark County by having ancestors in the county since 1808.

Doris was especially fond of her older sister, Bernice (known as Marian to some). They were 2 1/2 years apart; they ran around together and learned to swim and played golf and tennis together. They were always close, and even went on dates together. Each was the other's bridesmaid; Bernice's wedding was in Doris's home. Before the war they took flying lessons and had partial interest in an airplane. They often sang duets and considered one another pals.

During later years she got to know her youngest brother, Rhett, better. She often said that it was his devotion and friendship that enabled her to remain independent for so long. She was very grateful for his companionship and help.

Doris was instrumental in the beginning and development of Quick Manufacturing, which Jim Quick started with his father in 1946 upon getting out of the navy after the war. The business, which Jim grew rapidly, produced outdoor power equipment, and with nearly 500 employees was one of the 3 largest in the industry. In 1966 the company and Toro merged.

She had many interests, among which were swimming and music. She liked to sing with her sister while her father and brother accompanied them. For hobbies she bowled, baked and cooked, and since high school she enjoyed taking snapshots of family, friends and exotic places. She was able to travel around the world--her favorite places were Bali and Hawaii.

The family made many trips to Florida, and for several years they had a beautiful second house on the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Kindred Hospice for their caring help. Especially helpful were Lea, Jhama and Eli. Many thanks also to Alexis and Megan, who provided additional much-appreciated support. Towards the end her son, Jerry, cared for her 24/7 to allow her to remain in her home, and everyone is indebted to him.

Aloha.
