Donelly "Shorty" Abney, age 94, of Bellbrook, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Stanton, Kentucky, on March 30, 1929, the son of the late Verlin and Sophie Abney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry Abney; and his siblings.
Shorty is survived by his beloved wife, Thelma Abney; 3 children, including son, Donald (Lisa) Abney; grandchildren, Chris (Cindy) Henn, Lisa (Chet) Prather, Dawn (Josh Young) Abney and "bonus granddaughter", Brittany Hoaglin; several other grandchildren; great grandchildren, Kayleigh (Skyler) Purdom, Nathan (Kammy) Prather, Tyler Abney, Ethan (Desiree) Prather and several other great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.
He retired from General Motors and was a well known and loved member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. In his free time, he enjoyed training colts (weanlings and yearlings). He was also a Western movie enthusiast. Shorty's family meant the world to him, especially his wife, Thelma. He would do anything for those he loved. Shorty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where Funeral Services will begin at 11:00am, with Steve Nickels officiating. Burial will follow at Heritage Hills Memory Gardens.
