Donald L. Steely, age 84 of Riverside, OH went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born October 3, 1934 in Williamsburg, Kentucky to Charles and Martha (Walker) Steely. Don married Betty Cline on June 30, 1961 in Xenia, OH.
Don was a U.S. Army Veteran, lived most of his adult life in Dayton, OH and retired after 42 years from Hewitt Soap Company. During retirement he did not sit still working at Kincaid and Forsthoefel for 22 years. He was a dedicated member of Airway Baptist church for 50 years and took part in many church activities. Don enjoyed numerous hobbies including mall walking, grocery shopping and attending school functions and sporting events for his grandchildren and nephews. He was an avid sports fan, most notably Reds baseball and University of Kentucky basketball. Don was a great athlete in his day, known famously as "Steel Ball Steely" . His favorite pastime was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed for his quick wit and love of life and family.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; two Daughters, Lisa (Mark) Wright and Lori (Michael) Williams; three grandchildren, Nicholas Wright, Jordan Wright and Hannah (Daniel) Renick; a great granddaughter, Catalina Renick; three bonus grandchildren, Justin, Jillian and Ethan Williams; two special nephews, Dane and Dashton Koelker; and family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and nine siblings and is with them again.
Visitation will be held on July 3, 2019 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Henry Chafin and Pastor D.E. Nickel. Burial to follow services at Valley View Memory Gardens, Xenia.
