Donald Edward Slate

Donald "Buck" Edward Slate, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2017. He was born in Red Ash, VA to the late Edna and Clarence Slate. Donald retired from DAP after 35 years as a chemical Engineer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching Nascar with his family. Don was a caring and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who loved.


In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his son, Brian Keith Slate.


Don leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 57 years, Margaret Slate; children, Pam Gipson, Mark Edward Slate, Jeff Slate, Donald B. Slate, and Dale Scott Slate; grandchildren, Jason Slate, Jessica Slate, Brandy Slate, Amber Gipson, Jacob Gipson, Mark Slate, Jr., Gabby Slate, and Tiffany Chilton; great-grandchildren, Damian, Shaylee, Kendra, Bryan, and Parker; sisters, Connie Deskins, Clara Bilbrey, Betty Shaut, and Peggy Whited; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 1pm - 3pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel. A funeral service to honor Donald's life will be held on Monday at 1:30pm at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
