Oberlin, Donald H. Jr. "Red", age 88, of Miami Township, passed away December 18, 2017 at Kettering Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Xenia, Ohio to Clara and Donald Oberlin, Sr. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1948. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict with time in Korea and Japan. He retired from NCR with 23 years of service. He also worked for a short time at Inland Division of General Motors. He was a life member of VFW Post 3438 in West Carrollton, Ohio, American Legion Post 165 in Miamisburg, Ohio and Amvets Post 1000 in Kettering, Ohio. He was Post Quartermaster for VFW Post 3438 then for Montgomery Council and VFW Third District for several years. He also served on the Honor Guard for Post 3438. He liked to travel and bowl.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia (Shanks) Oberlin; his son, Michael Oberlin of Powell, TN; his granddaughter, Kendra Oberlin of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by his brothers, Harold (Frannie) Oberlin of Wilmington, Ohio, William Oberlin of Fairborn, Ohio; his sisters, Jane Tobias of Fairborn, Ohio and Ethel (Samuel) Sharp of Martinsville, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am until 10:30 am on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Newcomer, South Chapel 3940 Kettering Blvd. where funeral service will follow at 10:30am. Graveside services will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
