Donald E. Murphy, age 91, of Fairborn, OH, formerly of Carthage, NY, passed away on May 25, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born in Watertown, NY, on September 12, 1929, to the late Leona (Bushey) and Edward Murphy. On August 27, 1955 he married Patricia Collins. She preceded him in death in 2000.
In his early years, Don worked in his father's Electronics/Appliance business in Carthage, where he also served on the volunteer fire department. He spent 4 years in the United States Air Force, then finished his career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, 4950th Test Wing, retiring in 1985. He also enjoyed serving at The Lions Club in Fairborn, where he assisted with the seeing eye dog program and the Fairborn Corn Festival. He gave of his time freely to family and friends, and especially to Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, where he was a member. The family has many fond memories of the special times Don (and Pat) spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. They enjoyed trips to Caesar Creek State Park, Young's Dairy, and many family cookouts.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister Sharon Marti. Don is survived by 2 daughters, Kimberly (Robert) Geddis, Bowling Green, OH, and Kristin (George) Savoie, Dayton, OH, grandchildren Kelly (Kurt) Rasmusson, Ben (Heyward) Geddis, Kari (Ryan) Mehaffie, and Kyle Savoie. Great grandchildren Evelin, Jack, Winston, Louie, Colin, Olivia, Bethany, Madelyn, Noah, Nora, Henry, Fletcher, and Archer. He is also survived by sister Betty Moonan of Boonville, NY. and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd.,Beavercreek, OH) with service following at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery, New Antioch, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Vitas Healthcare or The Gideon International.
