LOOSE, Donald "Don", 62, of Beavercreek Ohio passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 24, 2009. Originally of Harrisburg Pennsylvania, Don was preceded in death by parents Robert and Jane Davis Loose and is survived by sister Linda Loose of Melbourne Australia; the Davis family of Pennsylvania and Maryland; loving companion Stephanie Deen; irascible feline Sir Onyx the Cool (now in need of a new home to rule); and hundreds of dear friends and musical companions around the world.
Don was a true renaissance man. A scientist by training, he had a PhD in Biophysics from Ohio State University and spent his career as a Human Factors Engineer in the U.S. Air Force and, more recently, as consultant to Battelle. However Don's abiding passion was music. Raised by his family in the warm embrace of Barbershop Quartet singing, he devoted most waking moments to singing, coaching, teaching, recording and preaching to any who would listen his love of a cappella vocal singing and jazz. He founded innumerable musical groups - and gave voice and heart to countless others.
Don also had an avid interest in audio recording and audio visual technology; guest hosted radio shows on both AV and music subjects; wrote the Doctor Audio column for the Dayton Daily News; and had insatiable curiosity (and pointed views) about almost every subject on the planet. A 30+ year member of Group Interaction, Don above all treasured his friends and family and the joy they brought to his rich and varied life. The joy and love he brought to so many of them will be sorely missed.
A celebration of Don's one-of-a-kind life will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday November 1, at The Christopher Club, Governor's Place, 3150 South Dixie Drive, Kettering Ohio 45439. In lieu of flowers Don wished that contributions be made to any favourite cause benefiting either of his lifelong passions: science or music.
