Koogler, Donald "Don" Dean died peacefully at Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, Ohio on October 12, 2017 at the age of 79.
Don is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cassandra "Sandy" Lee Koogler and children by marriage, Kathryne M. (Chuck) Vedder and Kristopher R. (Gina) Geis; and 4 Grandchildren, Christina (Daniel) Shurts, Cole Hildebrand and Riley and AJ Geis. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Karin E. Crawford.
Don was born January 4, 1938 in Troy, Ohio to Don and Mary Koogler. He graduated from Patterson Co-op High School in 1956 with a degree in printer-ship. Don, a Korean War Veteran, served in both the Naval Reserve and the United States Air Force as a Medical Services Specialist. After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the Military, Don moved back to Dayton, Ohio having a long and distinguished career with General Motors Moraine Assembly as the Transportation Specialist within the Material Department for over 36 years.
Don was an accomplished ship model builder, avid motorcyclist and NASCAR enthusiast. However, his favorite hobby was traveling with his bride, Sandy, to places throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and the Baltic and Mediterranean Regions. Don was an extremely passionate historian with specific interest throughout the World War II era.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 5-7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at St. Luke Catholic Church followed by burial at Dayton National Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don's life.
