Donald H. Knight, passed away on Saturday Feb 25th. He was 88 years old and was preceded in
death by his wife, Esther Maxine Knight. Both had been life-long residents of Dayton and leave to
mourn a daughter, Linda Knight Hager, a son, David H. Knight and daughters, Knicole Ann Knight
Smith and Joe Ellyn Knight, who all miss them very much.
Donald was stationed on the USS Orisikany (1950). He loved the Navy life, was proud of his
service. As he had a strong personal faith, he originally wanted to remain in San Diego, California
and continue civilian life as a minister. His family was in Dayton, so he returned, got married, went
back to San Diego, completed his commitment and then brought his wife and daughter back to
Dayton. Donald was a solid man, honest, kind, with a quirky sense of humor, he was quiet and a strong
provider, working and eventually retiring from General Motors Harrison, here in Dayton.
Donald enjoyed family-time, quick to laugh, and happy to share what he had. He burned a mean
hot dog on the grill!
He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He'd played an active role in many cousins,
nieces and nephews lives. He loved antique clocks and watches, and repaired both for many years.
He could always be found working in his shop on intricate gears, springs and wheels.
He was a good and kind man who touched many lives in his time here. He leaves this world a better
place and will be deeply missed by us all.
