Donald Louis Gebhardt, age 88 of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was born April 9, 1935 in Middletown, Ohio the son of the late Louis and Edith Gebhardt. He graduate from Chaminade Julienne High School. Donald worked for his family's grocery store, Gebhardt's Market, for over 50 years starting when he was very young with his Father and eventually purchased it when his Father fell ill. He had a canny ability to fix just about anything he put his mind to. He worked with his son Steve remodelling houses. Donald was a very social person who did not know a stranger. He was filled by a profound generosity and he loved to help anyone in need. Whether it be with groceries because they were sick or fallen on hard times or repairing something to save them money. He would always lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. In later years he enjoyed visiting the Monroe Casino with his sweet pea, Linda. They made many friends at the casino. Donald was a father figure to the younger generation and would always give advice and speak his mind. He had a great memory and could recall events from his childhood and this made him an excellent story teller. He will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew him.
Donald is survived by his Sweet Pea, Linda S. Evans; Daughters, Marsha L. (Jim) Gebhardt, and Karen S. Puckett (Jeff); Sons, Vincent L. (Michele) Gebhardt, Joshua A. (Dari) Gebhardt, and Stephen M. (Jessica) Gebhardt; Step-Son, Aaron Evans; Step-Daughter, Angela (Dean) Steele; Granddaughters, Jodi (John) Harris, Heather (Jerry) Stringfellow, Amy (Jesse) O'ryan, Miranda (Juan) Patino, Ashley (Blake) Parrett, Amber (Matt) Gustin, Kaylyn Gebhardt, and Lena Dalton; Grandsons, Eric (Brittany and Jaxson) Puckett, Kyle Gebhardt, and Justin (Carolyn) Gebhardt; Step-Grandchildren, Micah Adkins, and Jacob Young; Great-Grandchildren, Madison Gustin, Remi Parrett, Connor O'Ryan, Emma O'Ryan, Hunter Bohram, Mariana Patino and Annalise Gebhardt.; Sister, Jane (Kenneth) Parks; and by numerous other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Wife of 48 years, Patty (Pat) Gebhardt; Parents, Edith and Louis Gebhardt; Grandson, Adam Gebhardt; Sister, Joann (Robert) Sulzer; Son-in-law, Mark Puckett; Son in Law Danny Bohram and Close Friends, Roy Tarr, Dick Tarr, Gene Hecker, Jim Crews, and Butch Johnson.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton. A special thanks to Deanna, Tim, and Jessica for the wonderful care they provided. But mostly to his love, Linda Evans, who took such great care of him over the last few years.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with Father Paul Gebhardt officiating, at Newcomer Funeral Home - Centerville (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459). Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Miami Valley Memory Gardens located at 1639 E. Lytle 5 Points Rd. Centerville, Ohio 45458.
