Hickey, Donald Charles, age 81, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Hospice of Dayton. Don was a United States Navy Veteran proudly serving during WWII as a Signalman 3rd Class aboard the U.S.S. Wichita. He was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Post Office. He was a founding member of Ascension Church, member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and VFW Post 9927.
Don is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Christine (Rodney) Brown, Teresa (Craig) Cook, Carol Hickey, anita (Dean) Nicodemus, Mary (Mark) Ashworth, Jennifer Hickey; son: Mark E. Hickey; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister: Edna Rae Stemple; and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Virginia Hickey; parents; Edward & Marie (Luken) Hickey; and brother: Jack Hickey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Ascension Church, 2025 Woodman Ave., Kettering with Reverend Chris Worland Cemebrant. Interment with military honors will follow Mass at Dayton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, envelopes will be provided. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at both Hospice of Dayton and Tenderhearts Home Health Care for their love and care of Don.
