Donald Beech

BEECH, Master Sergeant (Retired) Donald Lee, age 73 of Dayton, passed away September 14, 2012 at Grandview Hospital. He was born June 1, 1939 in Bellefontaine, OH to the late, Mabel and Walter Wetherill and was later adopted by Clifford Beech on December 12, 1941.

Don could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard 1957-59, the U.S. Army 1959 -67, and the U.S. Air Force 1967-78. He served during the Vietnam Conflict as an F-4 Phantom mechanic. While in the Army Don served as a Military Policeman and a Recruiter; additionally he served in the Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician (F-111A), Education and Training NCO and finally as a Recruiter, receiving numerous awards for his service as a Recruiter; culminating his career with a retirement in October 1978 as a Master Sergeant serving over 21 years.

After retirement he worked 19 years as a civil service employee at the Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL and Naval Submarine Base Kingsbay, GA.

He resided in Dayton, Ohio with his wife, Marguerite G. (Stockard) Beech. They were married February 17, 1967, and enjoyed 45 wonderful years together.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters: Lelonie (Joe) Sanders, Korina Thomas, Helen Beech-Bruton, Sandra Beech, and Technical Sergeant Wendy (Shawn) Beech-Riley, a son, Donald (Vicki) Beech; sister-in-laws: Roselin Rathai of Germany and Melanie (Alan) Kaiser; and brother–in-law, Patrick (Frances) Foust; 11 grandchildren, Chris Sanders, Joshua Sanders, Barbara Thomas, Stephanie Beech, Amanda Bennett, Alyssa Gwin, Robert Voelker III, Sean Dorr, Airman First Class Micheal Kineard, Brian Kineard, and Bradley Riley; as well as 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Knerr, his fathers, Walter Wetherill and Clifford Beech; a grandson, Nicholas Thomas, and a cousin, Francine Adkins.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home – North, 4104 Needmore Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either, ASPCA or The Wounded Warrior Project.
