Donald R. Baker, age 66, Fairborn, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacqueline (Begley) Baker, and Charles R. Baker.
He is survived by wife, Tammy (Kalt) Baker, daughter, Lindsay Baker, Brother, Darren (Jessica) Baker.
Don was a 1974 graduate of Fairborn Park Hills High School and completed the Art Program at Greene Joint Vocational School. He was a longstanding member of the Knollwood Church of Christ in Beavercreek. He worked for Duriron Foundry (Flowserve) for 12 years processing iron castings. Don recently retired from the United States Post Office after 35 years of service. He worked at Dabel, Washington Township, and Beavercreek Branches of the post office as a Carrier and Rural Route Carrier. While at the Beavercreek Post Office Don received the One Million Mile Club Award for attaining 1,000,000 miles or 30 years of Safe Driving, without a preventable incident. He also received several Certificate of Excellence and Attendance awards from the post office.
His hobbies included drawing cartoon characters for family and friends, body building at the gym, watching Western movies starring John Wayne, traveling, playing trivia with the postal carriers, watching and attending sports games, (hockey, football, baseball), bowling, roller skating, and especially watching the Pittsburgh Steelers with his ice-cold Dr. Pepper and bucket of fried chicken in hand. When Don was around, you could be sure there would be no leftovers!
Don loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and their children. You could always count on him to be the first one to show up for family gatherings! He never failed to arrive early (with a Dr. Pepper in hand) no matter what was planned!
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 23rd, from 5-7 pm at Newcomer of Beavercreek, Ohio, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, and a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 24th at 10:00 am, with Evangelist Heath Rogers officiating. A graveside service to follow at Byron Cemetery, 3256 Trebein Road, Fairborn.
