Dick Bridgman

January 20, 1928 — July 12, 2021

Dick Bridgman, age 93, died peacefully at 10 Wilmington Place on July 12, 2021, surrounded by family. Born at home, January 20, 1928 in Piqua OH, Dick was the fourth child of Lucile and Howard Bridgman. On June 7, 1950 Dick married the love of his life, Carolyn Mae Boda. Together they celebrated 71 years of a great and exciting marriage!

Dick attended Piqua High School. After his graduation, Dick went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Otterbein University and a master's degree in education from Ohio State University. Until his retirement in 1981, Dick served 32 years as a public school educator: teacher, assistant principal; and director of secondary education for the Kettering Schools. Over the years, Dick Bridgman influenced thousands of students and hundreds of teachers by making a positive impact in their lives. Teachers loved working in his school, and students were proud to be part of Van Buren.

During his retirement Dick was extremely active and searched for adventure by becoming a licensed pilot, certified bareboat captain, certified scuba diver and avid snow and water skier. For 11 years of his retirement, Dick was a volunteer at Carillon Park in the Aviation building. He was very skilled at home remodeling. Dick Bridgman lived an authentic life of integrity always looking for the next adventure for himself his family and his friends. He lived a selfless and giving life.

Along with his loving wife Carolyn, Dick is survived by his sons John (Juliana) Bridgman of Centerville, OH, David (Mim) Bridgman of Powell, OH and Tom (Amy) Bridgman of Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law, Cindy Bridgman of Leesburg, VA; grandchildren, Jeff Bridgman, Lisa (Jeff) Meyerhoffer, Andy (Maria) Bridgman, Jeremy (Megan) Bridgman, Charis Bridgman, Sam Bridgman and Max Bridgman; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Taylor, Archer, Elliott, Henry, Emily, Ben and Will Bridgman. Dick was preceded in death by his son, Michael.

Dick Bridgman was the model of what it looks like to make family a top priority. He was a faithful and amazing husband, a fun and involved father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his children and grandchildren. The world was blessed to have this man, and the world will dearly miss this man.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions in Dick's name to the Otterbein University.

Dick will be cremated and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
