Derek Wayne Whitaker

Derek Wayne "Dee" Whitaker, age 41, of Dayton, passed away on December 23, 2021. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on February 4, 1980, the son of the late Henry Whitaker and Leona Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Derek "Boogie" Whitaker, Jr.; and his sister, April (the late Rodney) Hartley.

Derek is survived by his children, Iziah Whitaker, Kaiden Whitaker, Alahna Whitaker and Thomas; siblings, Mike (Melissa) Spoonmore, Michael (Thia) Whitaker, Joshua Whitaker, Amanda (James) Combs, Jessie (Michele) Combs, Adam (Ashley) Whitaker and Megan Whitaker; cousin/ "Brother", Jestin (Bambi) Thomason; step-father, James Combs; and many other loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, working on his car, installing car radios and learning new skills on a daily basis. Derek had an amazing sense of humor and always had a smirk on his face. He loved to make other laugh and wanted to make everyone happy. He loved everyone with his whole heart and will be greatly missed by everyone. Derek's children were his entire life, he would do anything for them.

As Derek always said, "I AM MY BROTHER'S KEEPER!"

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022, from 5pm-8pm, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 1pm, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Willow View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with funeral and cemetery expenses.
