Derek was the gentlest soul, the kindest man who ever lived. A legend on stage and in life. Derek made friends with everyone he met. He never knew a stranger. Derek had an irrepressible charm with the perfect amount of charisma which helped him live life fearlessly with no regrets. He was an amazing man who seemed to have found the secret to spreading joy in the lives of everyone who knew him. Dereks' biggest passion in life was music, particularly his band "Controversy for Breakfast" that formed in 2013. Derek created a family unit within his bandmates and friends called the "Hellbilly Family" that was comprised of many who he considered his brothers and sisters. Derek was the life of the party everywhere he went, always with a guitar in his hand and a grin on his face. He had a vivacious personality and always made people around him feel loved. Derek also had a love for the river and felt at peace sitting on the riverbank with a banjo in hand. Derek will be sorely missed by all that crossed his path.

A Celebration of Derek's Life will be held from 11:30am-1:30pm, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. Burial will immediately follow at Silver Creek Cemetery, Jamestown.
