Denyse C. Dubrucq

June 1, 1937 — February 13, 2022

Denyse C. DuBrucq, age 84 of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 13, 2022 at her home. She was born June 1, 1937 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Theodore and Claire "Honey" (Grebe) DuBrucq. In addition to her parents, Denyse was preceded in death by her aunt, Claudia "Babe" (Grebe) Mack.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia (Mark Gelenter) DuBrucq; four children, Jill (Jeff Colker) McNutt, Lynn (Dave) Hutting, Ross (Stacy) McNutt and Todd (Tricia) McNutt; grandchildren, Ryan (Laura) Herring, Averlyn (Chad) Mayers, Travis (Andrea Stirdivant) Russell, Andy McNutt, JoAnna & Catherine McNutt, Rachel McNutt, Madison McNutt, Kalyssa McNutt and Syrenna McNutt; great-grandchildren, Avery & Colton Mayers, Landon & Nila Herring, Blakely & Calen Russell.

Denyse grew up in Green Bay and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Denyse (Denny) and her younger sister Ginny learned to play golf at a fairly young age, playing frequently with their parents.

Education was important to Denyse. In 1955 she moved to Madison, Wisconsin to attend the University of Wisconsin, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics--Textiles. As a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority '59, Denyse formed fond memories as a sorority girl. In college, she met Douglas 'Doug' McNutt, a physics graduate student who also attended the University of Wisconsin and they were married in 1959. Their first daughter Jill was born in 1962.

Doug's work as a scientist with the Naval Research Laboratory took them to Oxon Hill, Maryland where they moved shortly after the birth of their second daughter Lynn in 1963. Denyse's two sons, Ross and Todd, were born while the family lived in Oxon Hill. When her children were younger, Denyse taught science at Aquinas Montessori School in Alexandria, Virginia where she began inventing. Her first creation was a teaching puzzle with labeled parts of plants. Throughout her lifetime Denyse would continue inventing. Denyse went on to have 10 patents, with her most recent one being a Liquid Nitrogen Enabler, USP 7,631,506.

Denyse continued her education when she obtained her Doctor of Education in Science Education from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado where she moved her family in 1976. She also learned to fly and earned her instrument rating as a pilot. While working on several start-up companies over a span of four decades, Denyse was able to travel and see the world, including visits to Italy, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, and China. Staying true to her Wisconsin roots, Denyse was always a huge fan of the Badgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Denyse was a fun and eccentric "Granny" to her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Denyse chose the title 'Granny' because she insisted that she was too young to be a "Grandma".

Denyse moved to Ohio in 2003, living first in Cedarville, Ohio and then in Dayton (Riverside), Ohio. Denyse found great comfort and fellowship as a member of The Christian Science Church for several decades, then as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and then again as a member of The Christian Science Church.

Denyse will be laid to rest next to her parents Theodore and Claire DuBrucq in Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held at The Chapel of the Flowers on Sunday, 27 February from 10:00 until 11:30 am. Funeral service will be at 11:30 am, followed by the burial service.
