Dennis E. Mcclure M.D.

November 1, 1951 — November 24, 2021

Dennis Elliot McClure, MD, age 70 of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away peacefully at home in his wife Anna's arms with their son Jacob also present in the room. He was born November 1, 1951 in Bloomington Indiana, son of the late Morris and Betty McClure.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Morris and Betty McClure. Dennis is survived by his wife of 18 years, Anna McClure; children Jacob and Nadia McClure; children from his first marriage (Constance), sons Michael and Brian (Anna) McClure, daughters Emily and Sarah McClure; grandchildren Maeve and Fiona; siblings Thomas (Jayne) McClure, Tim (Kathie) McClure, Beth Bowen, Barb (Steve) McClure-Allen, and Theresa (Gary) Ford; 12 nieces and nephews, and 14 grand nieces and nephews.

Dennis was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, colleague, and outstanding physician and board certified Neurosurgeon.

Dennis was a gifted trumpet player. Having a passion for classic jazz, he played for the Sinclair Jazz ensemble in Dayton Ohio. Dennis extended his passion for trumpet by playing for his wife Anna at their wedding.

Dennis loved fine cuisine, soap making, bicycle riding, drum circles, and taking long walks in the woods at Glen Helen Nature Preserve and John Bryan State park with his wife and friends in Yellow Springs Ohio where he and his wife and their two children lived for 11 years. He also loved taking long drives in the countryside listening to jazz along the way.

Dennis was a brilliant Neurosurgeon. His healing hands and compassionate heart saved and blessed countless numbers of lives. In 1973 Dennis went into the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant while attending Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and received a scholarship through the Air Force to attend Medical School. He achieved his medical license as a senior in 1977. Dennis completed his neurosurgical residency in 1984 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison which accepted him without an interview while at the same time being promoted to the rank of Major in the US Air Force.

Dennis was assigned as Neurosurgeon to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS for two years before being reassigned to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton Ohio where he served as Chief of Neurosurgery.

Dennis was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1988 and went on to join a Neurosurgery partnership in Dayton, Ohio practicing at Good Samaritan Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital, Kettering Hospital, and St. Elizabeth Hospital. Dennis was also a volunteer clinical Associate professor of surgery at Wright State University in 1986.

During his private practice from the late 1980's until his retirement from operative Neurosurgery in 2006 he had quite the list of accomplishments and honors. He and a colleague performed ground breaking interoperative techniques during surgery which was later presented at a surgical conference. In 2003, Dennis acquired a non-invasive machine to treat back pain called AccuSpina. This transformed his professional career as he and his wife collected research data on the results. The results were so profound that they were published in the US and European Musculoskeletal Review Magazine in 2006. He was given the honor of speaking at the Britspine Medical conference in Cardiff, Whales on his research results that same year.

As Dennis himself stated many times, the highlight of his professional career came when he got to stand up and deliver a PowerPoint presentation in front of his peers at the most prestigious American Association of Neurological Surgeons Conference in 2008 on his outstanding results using the non-invasive AccuSpina machine.

He and his wife also had a medical practice together from 2009-2015 in Yellow Springs, Ohio where they helped many patients suffering with opiate dependency providing outpatient recovery services.

The final work in his professional career was as a pain and addiction medical doctor at the Dayton Pain Center from 2015 until ill health forced him to hang his doctor's stethoscope for the final time in 2017.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 2-4pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A Memorial Service will begin at 4pm at the Funeral Home.
