Halpin, Della Marie, age 96, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, formerly of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010. Della was a long time member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Kettering. She was a co-founder and charter member of the Kittyhawk Ladies Golf Association, and was active with the St. Anthony Parish P.T.A. and Rosie Miller Bridge Club. Della is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn (Norman) Schmotzer, Barbara McCleary, Janet (Rick) Stutzman; sons and daughter-in-law: Jerome Halpin Jr. and John (Ann) Halpin; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Leonard (Berdella)Hemmelgarn, Edward (Mary Ann) Hemmelgarn, Ivo (Doris) Hemmelgarn; sisters and brothers-in-law: Eileen (Harold) Heuker and Anna Lee (Jack) Kunkel; brother-in-law: Ralph Halpin; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jerome Halpin Sr.; parents: Joseph T. & Mary (Backs) Hemmelgarn; brother: Albert and sisters: Bertilla, Alma, Dorothy and Alberta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, Ohio with Father Thomas Meyer Celebrant. Interment will follow Mass at Heritage Hills Memorial Gardens in Springboro, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Knox County, Hillenvale Assisted Living and Autumn Health Care for all the care given to Della. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County.
