Dee Mitchell, 79, of Detroit, MI, passed away on January 20, 2017 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Dee was born on May 29, 1937 to the union of Emma Malone and Roy Gaines Sr. who both preceded her in death.
She began working for Chrysler at the Mack Avenue Stamping Plant in 1972, and later moved to the Chrysler Corporation-Warren Truck Assembly Plant where she retired. She was a passionate member of the UAW, Local 212. Dee maintained a strong religious conviction and attended various churches in the Detroit area - all sharing the Christian faith. She was an exceptional mother who spent her life devoted to caring for her family and her maternal presence was shared with extended as well as immediate family members. She loved the classic Motown sound and she danced until she could no longer stand.
Dee is survived by her daughters, Lorain (Dagogo) Obomanu of Detroit, MI and Lisa (Bryon) Mitchell-Smith of Dayton, OH; her son, Jimmie L. Mitchell Jr. of Rutherford, NJ; her twin sister Doris Hill of Royal Oak, MI; and her brother Roy Gaines Jr. of San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie J. Mitchell; her sisters, Gloria Alexander and Arvella Jenkins; and her brother, Chris Malone.
