Deborah Anne Stevens, passed away on Monday, 10 July, 2023, age 67. She was born in Hampton Virginia, on 19 Dec, 1955. She was the daughter of Clarence and Felissa Crockett, and her brother, Dennis, and sister in law, Nan.
She was a proud Military Brat and spend much of her younger years at USAF Bases in Spain and Germany. She kept up with her classmates through the Zweibrucken Reunion Group and just attended one of their frequent reunions. After graduating from Sumter HS, SC, she attended the original USC, the University of South Carolina, where she met her husband Charles. They were married in 1977. She didn't get far from the USAF. Charles was commissioned in the USAF and assigned to WPAFB. They later settled in the Dayton area. They have 2 children, that married partners who immediately became her children. Daughter Melinda and son in law Josh, and son Brett and daughter in law Stacy. They have 3 energetic grandchildren, Cathrine, Alexander, and Malcolm, who adored their Ya Ya.
In between, she studied Computer Science, Computer Engineering, before she found her passion and earned her BA in Modern Languages from WSU. She worked for the Dayton Montgomery County Library and Dayton Public Schools, where her proficiency in Spanish helped translate information for Latinos using the library and DPS administration offices.
She was a caring mother and active community member, giving her time as a band mom, along with an extensive cadre of other moms that have stayed connected for 30 years. She was a Girl Scout leader, for her daughter and granddaughter, and a recruiter for the local council. She believed strongly that Girl Scouts provided a great foundation for girls to develop into future leaders.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm. The family requests memorial gifts in Deborah's honor to the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, or your local troop.
