Dawn McGuire (née Green) died on October 14, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton after flipping the bird to Stage IV pancreatic cancer for more than three years. She was born on 12/02/1950 in Dayton, OH and was a Dayton resident for most of her life.
After being a medical assistant for many years, she decided she wanted more, so she went back to school at age 40, graduated from Sinclair Community College, and became a registered nurse. Caring for people was never a job, but truly her life's calling. Much of her career was spent on the hematology/oncology unit at Dayton Children's Hospital and she loved those kids and mourned for many of them as if they were her own.
Family was more important to her than anything, and her favorite days were spent with them. Although chemotherapy made her very ill, she never once considered stopping, because that meant less days with those she loved the most. Family Funday Sundays were a staple- with games, music, way too much food, and probably some inappropriate humor.
Dawn was a survivor, an optimist, fiercely independent, generous, and kind. She loved buying beauty products in bulk, gadgets, true crime, and naps (especially in the winter time with the windows wide open).
She is preceded in death by her mother Madge Norris, sister Lisa Norris and son Shawn McGuire, survived by daughters Shan (Craig) Seitz, Gentry McGuire, (Steve Haldeman), sister Kim (Jimmy) McAfee, brother Zane (Dru) Stewart, along with siblings who were adopted as babies but she thought of and talked about often, grandchildren Sam and Liam Seitz, Kaylee Wagoner, Desirae McGuire, Alyssa French and Ciara Haught, great grandchildren Carter (Bush Baby), Camyron, Reighlys, Hayden, and Evy, beloved dog Blossom, lifelong friends Janie and Tom Kielbaso.
A memorial will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424) on Saturday, November 9th with visitation from 1-3 and a service by Bobbi Predmore from 3-4.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
