David Walton Shurte, age 83, of Beavercreek, OH passed away peacefully on September 3, 2021 at home surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Esta and Cora (Brown) Shurte, Gladys (Kelly) Vansickle, his parents, Denzile Earl Shurte and Marjorie Louise (Vansickle) Hunter. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Alexis (Cooper) Shurte, daughter Lori (Penny) Shurte, son Matt (Jenny) Shurte, grandchildren, Rachael, Max and Parker Shurte, and other family members.
David graduated from Wilbur Wright High School and attended the Dayton Art Institute. He began his career with Yeck & Yeck Advertising and was the Art Director at David K. Burnap Advertising for many years. He was a talented artist who won numerous Dayton Ad Club Hermes awards. He spoiled his family by creating wonderful "Shurte Tails" birthday cards.
In his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and working part time to fuel his love for cars by selling his favorite "Jags." David never met a stranger and was always quick with a "shaggy dog" tale that would leave everyone groaning. He was devoted to his family and loved playing with his kids and grandkids.
The family wishes to thank the many caregivers he had from Buckeye Senior Care, especially Lydia and Mark.
To minimize the risk of the corona virus, an outdoor "distanced" visitation will be held on September 8, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, 1639 E Lytle 5 Points Rd, Centerville, OH 45458 with full military honors. The procession to the cemetery will line up starting at Newcomer at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dayton Art Institute or the charity of your choice.
