Dr. David J. Moorhouse, age 83, of Bellbrook, OH, passed away Sat, Sept 10th, 2022. He was born May 25, 1939 on the Lancashire coast of Ainsdale, England to the late John E. and Bertha (who passed when he was 3) Moorhouse.
David started his career in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Liverpool, England, received his Masters at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta and finished with his Doctor of Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering, University of Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of the scientific and professional cadre of senior executives, retiring as the Sr Scientist for Multidisciplinary Technologies, Air Vehicles Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Materiel Command, WPAFB, Ohio. David authored or co-authored over 70 journal articles, papers and technical reports, and made many guest lectures.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Edna Moorhouse, who with his father raised him and his two half-brothers, his son Alex Moorhouse and daughter Mandy Moorhouse (who were tragically lost too soon), and their mother, Dorothy Moorhouse. Also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 28 years, Lorraine Moorhouse (who he lovingly cared for throughout her battle with Alzheimer's). His brother, Steve Moorhouse passed shortly after him in Nov of 2022.
David is survived by his brother Paul (Kathy) Moorhouse of Cambridgeshire, sister-in-law Hazel Moorhouse, daughter-in-law Michelle (David) Moorhouse, and his step-children, Bonita Botteri, Randy (Julie) Botteri, Diane (TC) Jones, Gene (Lora) Botteri and Tom (Samantha) Botteri. His grandchildren Brian, Nicole, Andrew, Daniel, Justin, Lucas, Tyler, Caleb, Brandon, and Dylan. He also leaves behind 7 great-grand children and 5 nieces and nephews.
David enjoyed cutting his lawn, IPA beers, good wine with fine dinners, fancy convertibles and "real" football! He collected beer bottles, beautiful artwork, coins and lots of mail. He just knew he would win the Publisher's Clearing House grand prize one day. We will all miss David for his English (?) sense of humor and his tales of growing up in England and moving to the USA. Per his brothers he joked that living in the USA he felt like he came from another planet and ironically, his brothers and others felt like perhaps he did. His tales of his adventures were what made us all love him.
A memorial service to remember David and to celebrate his life will be held Friday, March 10th @ 1pm at the Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Road, Dayton, OH 45459).
