David A. Matthews Jr. CMSgt USAF (ret)

David A. Matthews Jr. CMSgt USAF (ret), age 77 of Fairborn, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Miami Valley Hospital South. He was born September 14, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio the son of David Matthews Sr. and Helen McCance.

He met his future wife, Margaret "Peggy" Early while he was in training at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Illinois in October of 1964 and they were married September 23, 1967. Peg supported his career traveling as far as Florida, where David was born and Arizona, where Bill was born. Then finally back to Ohio for the third time where they settled down for keeps to watch their boys get married and give them the blessing of seven fantastic grandchildren.

He served 20 plus years with the Air Force and then continued his service as a contractor until his retirement in 2010. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his dogs.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Matthews; sister, Charlene Young.

He is survived by his sons, David (Kristi) with grandchildren Alex and Jenna; Bill (Jenny) with grandchildren Lilly, Gavyn, Vinnie, Freddy and Jack; siblings, Norman, Bruce and Sue.
