Dave was the first of six children born to Vera and David Lightcap. As a young boy he worked on the 25-acre family farm in Germantown, Ohio. By age twelve he was earning money working for neighboring farmers. As a young man Dave enjoyed rebuilding and racing cars locally and in Buffalo. He loved music and played the trumpet beginning in fourth grade. Dave also participated in sports and marching band at Jefferson Twp. School and graduated in 1953. He went on to attend Sinclair College where he earned an Associate Degree in Business and Mechanics.

Dave was active for many years in the Masons Beavercreek Lodge #753 and Antioch Shrine where he played trumpet in the brass band and was later unit director. He began his adult working career as an officer for Pinkerton Security Company and later as a part-time police officer in Beavercreek while working at NCR as a machinist. He served two years in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. He later worked at Dayton Progress where he retired.

He is survived by four siblings Bob, Helen, Roy (A.J.) and Earl (Beth), as well as two daughters Judith and Karen. He is a grandfather to Tom (Wendi), Amy (Tony), Angel (Ron), Harley (Lindsey), Taylor, Garrett, Isaiah, Ciara, Rachel, and Stephanie. He has fifteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and is survived by his partner Ms. Lee Shepherd, her daughter Stephanie and Lee's grandchildren Sarah (Tyler), Hannah and Grant.
