David L. Lewis, age 40, of Oakwood passed away August 5, 2013. David worked in the Ohio public school system for nineteen years, and was currently employed by Waynesville High School as a digital media/computer teacher. Born in Jasper, Indiana, David is survived by his wife Jessica Moore, father and stepmother David Sr. and Karen Lewis, mother Ko Tok Hui, grandmother Hazel M. Lewis, sister Dawn (Jim) Knepshield, stepsiblings Rebecca (Joe) Diekmann, Lori (David) Cunningham, Donald (Rose) Dunn, extended family Don and Betty Moore, Kristina and John Born, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
An adventurous individual, David was a passionate climber and outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, backpacking, canyoneering, kayaking, and biking in National Parks and other wilderness areas throughout the country. Through his love of photography, he captured memorable moments of these adventures he shared with his wife and close friends. David also enjoyed growing and tending his edible garden, walking Chester, beautifying his house with home improvement projects, and maintaining and riding his motorcycles.
A remembrance celebration for David will be held on Monday, August 12th at Cox Arboretum MetroPark located at 6733 Springboro Pike, Dayton, Ohio 45449. We are asking friends and family to gather by 6:15PM at the Edible Landscape Garden. Immediately following, a reception will be held on the grounds of Cox Arboretum in the Fifth Third Conference Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The National Park Foundation (www.nationalparks.org) or The Access Fund (www.accessfund.org).
