David W. Johnson, age 89, of Kettering, OH passed away peacefully Friday October 12, 2012 at Georgetown, Ohio Veterans' Home.
He is survived by his wife, Garnett (Brown) Johnson, sons Robert (Marsha), David Jay, grandsons James (Marcie), Travis (Jenna), and great-grandchildren Abigail, Logan and Emma, and brother Robert of Columbus, OH. He was a loving , caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will also be missed by his extended family, including Sarah, Aubrey and Molly Kirchhoff; Emma, Jackson and Parker Neace, and Michael Rush.
David was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Flora, brothers Carl (Emaline), Richard (Helen) and sister Elizabeth Ann.
David served as a Naval officer during the Second World War and the Korean War. He served on the aircraft carrier U.S. Steamer Bay. He graduated from Waverly, Ohio High School and The Ohio State University. He was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Dayton, where he served on the Board of Trustees.
Visitation will be held at Church of the Cross United Methodist in Kettering, on Thursday, October 18th from 11am to 12pm.
Funeral services will follow at the church at 12pm.
Burial will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul United Methodist, Dayton, OH.
Arrangements are by the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH.
