SMITH, David Elliott (73) of Beavercreek, Oh passed away on February 10, 2011 at Hospice of Dayton.
He was born March 19, 1937 to Ruth and J. Fred Smith. David has been married to his wife, Shary for 12 years, and together they have enjoyed their children: Tami (Wayne) Markworth, of Centerville, Ohio, Lora (Aaron) Kirk, of Fairborn, Ohio, and Ken (Brandy) Stoner of Bowling Green, Kentucky. David was blessed with 5 grandsons: Andrew (Kara) Markworth, Daniel (Maggie) Babal, Chris Babel, Jacob Babel, and Thomas Stoner. He is also survived by a sister, Judith Smith Armstrong (William).
During his teen years, David earned Eagle Scout and God and Country Awards from the Boy Scouts. He was a 1955 graduate of Beavercreek High, and earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Ohio University. David proudly served his country for 33 years and reached the rank of Colonel in the Ohio National Guard. He served Hawker United Church of Christ in Beavercreek for many years, and also served his last church home, Patterson Park Church. After retiring, David wanted to give back to his community by applying his contracting and construction skills in service to Habitat for Humanity.
A private military memorial service to honor David's life will be held for his family at a later date. Contributions in David's memory may be sent to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton Ohio 45420.
