David Benjamin Millat

David Benjamin Millat, age, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Natalie Anne Millat (2009). David was born December 27, 1918, in Germantown, Ohio to Anna and Gustav Millat of Germany. He was one of twelve children. Surviving siblings are: Herbert Millat, Dorothy Hawley, Anna Beall and Robert Millat. Deceased are: Gustav Millat, Jr., Otto Millat, Walter Millat, Alfred Millat, Gertrude Todd, Esther Garrison and Ruth Daniel.

David is survived by his two children: Kathleen Millat Johnson and Mark David Millat; his two granddaughters and their husbands:, China Anne and Chris South and their son Paul, of Kettering and Shanen and Alexander Ilg of Germany, and their son Jonathan.

David attended Dixie High School and graduated in 1937. He served in the Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star among other honors. He also served in the Occupation of Japan under General Douglas McArthur. In 1952, David started M&M Tool in Dayton with his brother, Alfred Millat which later became known as M&M Precision Systems. In time, he formed a new company called Roto-Power Precision later known as Roto-Technology located in West Carrollton, Ohio. He was a successful business man, realtor and inventor for 65 years. In his younger days, David was active with the Dayton Optimist Club and a member of the International President's Circle. He enjoyed writing family histories and published several accounts of his family's life growing up on a farm during the depression. He held patents for inventions, primarily in the Tool and Die Industry.

His last days were spent at Lincoln Park Manor where he charmed the staff with his playful sense of humor and his grateful heart. He lived the Optimist's Creed of positivity to the end. David will be missed by family and friends as a man who wore many "hats" during a long life as: husband, father, brother, grandfather, businessman, soldier, uncle, inventor, woodworker, boss, great-grandfather, friend and gentleman.
