Darrell N. Black, age 62, of Dayton, OH passed away peacefully from his early childhood home, after a short battle with cancer, and entered into his celestial home with Jesus on Friday, November 29, 2013.
Born February 13, 1951 in Dayton, OH. He was a man of few words but possessed a heart of pure gold.
He had a gentle spirit, loving smile and a kindness that radiated to everyone around him. Darrell was a true friend to many and a recipient of touching hands and hearts from a multitude of others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lefther and Blanche Black, and brother-in-law, James R. Baber.
He is survived by two sisters, Lena Sharon Baber-Fisher (Glen), Dayton, OH, Lora (Max) Burns, Barnesville, GA, and brother, Terrell (Sharon Kay) Black, Dayton, OH. He is also survived by a host of relatives and loving friends.
For the past sixteen years, Darrell has been a proud member of "The Castle," a gathering place for those with mental disorders, where compassionate "Friends of the Castle" helped him build new skills, and along the way, he made and developed life-long and life-changing friends.
Funeral services will be held at Moraine City Baptist Church (2748 Gladstone St, Moraine, OH 45439) at 11am on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 with burial following at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, (1639 E. Lytle 5 Points Rd, Centerville, OH 45458). Visitation will precede the funeral service at 10:00 am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to "The Castle", (133 N. Main St, Centerville, OH 45459).
Darrell was a special man and will be missed by all who knew him. Only loving memories will help fill the missing pieces in his brother and sisters' hearts.
