Darrell Jay Atwood, 50, of Dayton, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, of esophageal cancer.
Born Nov. 17, 1963, in Lexington, he grew up in Midway. While attending school at Sullivan College, he met his future wife, Dede, whom he married in April of 1988. Living in Georgetown, he worked as an assembly trainer for Toyota Logistics Services. Travels took him to Phoenix, Ariz., for a year. After moving to Dayton, Ohio, he worked at GE Aviation in Vandalia, Ohio, as a mechanical assembler.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Mandy Loftis; his mother, Patricia Atwood; his father and stepmother, Garnett and Polly Atwood; his grandmother, Atha Atwood; a sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and Mark Sims; two nieces, Megan and McKenzie Sims; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at 944 Griffith Ridge, Liberty, Ky., in the Christmas tree field. A part of his ashes will be released on the field during the service.
