Darla Sue Hopkins

Darla Sue Hopkins was born to the late Walter & Patricia Dockens on September 07, 1960, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She entered into eternal rest on April 07, 2023 at sixty-two years of age.

She graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1978 and later joined The United States Airforce, where she met the love of her life, Michael Hopkins. She was a dedicated, loving, and devoted Wife, Mother & Grandmother. Throughout her life she has achieved countless accomplishments in her career serving the Air Force & Navy. Her service did not stop there. She served her family, friends & community with her unconditional love, selfless acts of kindness, generosity and support.

December of 2016 Darla began a journey that changed her life forever. "Breast Cancer." Although that battle was faced with many challenges, she continued to fight without a single complaint. Her strength overpowered any moments of weakness, and because of that she never gave up. Her willpower to get up when she was knocked down inspired many. She was resilient and courageous. Darla enjoyed hitting the pavement with her running shoes and never looking back. She found peace & joy in running, going on walks and doing marathons. That is where she felt free. Her mark will always remain in her community on every route she took.

Darla is preceded in death by her two sons: Arnett Hopkins and Khorie Hopkins; parents: Patricia Dockens and Walter Dockens; Grandmother, Susie Lester; and Niece, Tiana Dockens.

Darla leaves to cherish her precious memories: An honorable husband of 40 years, Michael Hopkins of Dayton, Ohio; one son, Da'Marr Hopkins of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters: Kierra Hopkins of Dayton, Ohio, and Latia Hopkins of Houston Texas; seven sisters: Diane Jones (Sam), Wanda Williams (Jerome Sr.), of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Leslie Roberson (Rick Sr.) of Asheboro, North Carolina, Annette Brown (Adolph), Carlene U. Banks, Rick (Iris) Williams, Kim Belle, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; six brothers: Rev. Walter R. Dockens Jr (Aigner), Rickey Banks (Alvise), Kevin Belle (Marie), Ralph Belle (Cindy), Lorenzo Belle, and Lynwood Belle, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Also cherishing memories are her four grandchildren: Da'Mya Hopkins and Knylah Hopkins of Dayton Ohio: Caiden Hopkins and Khorie Hopkins of Houston Texas; best friends: Crystal McKoy, Juel Rambus, Dorothy Gibson, Diane Smith, Lisa Briggs, Eileen Parks, and Ann Fulp. Darla's memories will also be greatly cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing for Darla will be April 21, 2023 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road in Dayton, Ohio from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The family will receive friends and family for a celebration of life at 5480 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights, Ohio 45424 beginning at 6:00pm.
