Danny "Dan" B. Hensley

October 4, 1953 — September 30, 2024

New Carlisle, Ohio

In Loving Memory of Dan: The Legend Himself. It is with great reluctance (because he would’ve hated the fuss) that we announce the departure of Dan from his earthly realm to what he always called “the big happy hour in the sky.” He left us on September 30th, 2024, presumably after losing an argument with his own stubbornness, or maybe the pimp finally got him.

Born October 4th, 1953 in a town too small to contain his personality, Dan grew up cultivating his talents in eye-rolling, inappropriate joke timing, and the fine art of playing Freebird. He was a man who never once read an instruction manual, but kept every single one of them.

He was a beloved husband, an incredible father and stepfather, and the undisputed king of questionable life choices.

Dan loved traveling, especially exploring places with long-term partner, Kim Wilder. Whether it was a spontaneous flight to a city he'd always wanted to see or a week spent somewhere with a good steak and a smooth bourbon. Dan embraced every opportunity to experience life. He made memories wherever he went, and those who traveled with him knew that they wouldn’t come back without a really good story.

He was known for his meticulous dedication to the lawn, which he treated like a national treasure. He could often be found on his mower, making sure every blade of grass stood at respectful attention. His love for a perfect mow line rivaled his love for a good Saturday afternoon siesta-preferably after an episode of Cops and a cold beer. Dan never missed an episode of Cops, watching with the unwavering belief that he'd "definitely outrun those guys."

He was also known for his frequent, booming declarations like "Go wash your hands and make me a cheese sammich," a line that became his signature request-always delivered with a wink and a grin. Whether it was actually about the sandwich or just making sure everyone stayed on their toes, it became one of those catchphrases that stuck around and made us laugh every single time.

Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pam Hensley and his parents, Mary and Herbie Hensley. He leaves behind long term partner, Kim Wilder, his daughter, Stacey (David) Hensley, and his two stepdaughters, Amanda (Mark) Kudlas and Gina (Anthony) Peiffer, grandkids Lilian Emberton, Christopher Wilson, Katelyn Wilson, Brynlee Kudlas, and Mia Peiffer.

In honor of Dan, please raise a glass and remember that life is too short to not play Freebird even one more time. Dan, you were one of a kind. Thanks for the laughs, the love, and the lessons we never quite asked for.

Shit on you, Dan.

We love you.
