Daniel Joseph "Dan" Mayer, age 81, of Xenia, passed away on July 20, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 2, 1942, the son of the late George and Winifred Mayer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Jerry Mayer, Delores Hennessey, Marilyn Shoman and Janet Stepoway.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Nancy Mayer; son, Steven Mayer; daughters, Christine (Thom) Nichols, Kathleen (Bradley) Bergman and Molly (Jeff) Vaught; grandchildren, Megan, Camryn, Riley, Tommy, Ella, Mackenzie and Jack; sister, Bernadette "Buzzy" Bush; special caregiver, Dekara; and many other loving family and friends.
He served his country proudly by serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Corning Glass Works, after 25 years of employment. He was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia, Ohio, and also, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, Ohio. In his free time, he enjoyed his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. Dan had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a devoted family man and his Catholic faith meant the world to him. Dan will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 10:00am, at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 312 Fairgound Rd., Xenia, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan's memory to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Brigid Church.
