Daniel "Dan" Richard Breig, age 66, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Dan lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and generosity. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence lit up every room he entered.
Dan is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 44 years, Patty; his daughters Debbie Buffington (Bryan) and Jessica Perrill (Tobin); and his cherished grandchildren, Ember Buffington, and Theodore, Eleanor, and Oliver Perrill, who lovingly knew him as Papa. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Sue Griffith and Cindy Straten (David); his mother-in-law, Evelene “Lula” Botkin; his brother-in-law, James Botkin (Fran); and his sisters-in-law, Kathy Botkin and Karen Miller, and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Known affectionately by many as "Coach," "Big Dan," and his favorite title “Papa", he never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. His laugh was contagious, his heart was big, and his humor stayed with us until the very end. Dan was the kind of person who made life brighter for everyone lucky enough to know him.
Dan was a graduate of Wayne High School in 1977 where he wrestled varsity. He met Patty while working at his uncle’s restaurant, The Root Beer Stand, at 16 and their love was everlasting from that point. They both attended The Ohio State University where Dan obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and Accounting. Soon after he became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He went on to be an independent insurance agent where he could have summers off doing his favorite thing, being a dad with his girls. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. As well as an avid sports fan, cheering on the Buckeyes, Flyers, Bengals and Reds.
Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones in heaven and watching over us with that same unforgettable smile. We will always cherish our memories of him and keep laughing in his honor.
