Daisy W. Brown

July 24, 1949 — May 10, 2022

Daisy Washington Brown, 72, of Trotwood, Ohio, passed away on May 10, 2022. She was born to Curtis Washington and Hattie Mae (Petty) Washington on July 24, 1949 in Webb, Mississippi.

The second oldest of 8 siblings, and oldest daughter, Daisy was raised in a loving home, where she embraced her role as big sister. Daisy was protective of her younger siblings, and was known to stand up to bullies when needed. Daisy accepted Christ at an early age, while growing up she was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. Daisy had a passion for writing that started at an early age. She was the editor of the school newspaper at Lanier Junior Senior High School.
Daisy was a proud Jackson State University Tiger. Her work as an editor continued when she became the Editor in Chief of the Blue and White Flash, the university newspaper. In addition to her work as the Editor in Chief, Daisy was involved in activism regarding campus issues and national issues. Daisy was well known and was well liked by students, school administrators and all who met her in school.

Also while studying at Jackson State, Daisy met and fell in love with fellow student, Clarence Harold Brown. The two were united in matrimony on December 25, 1971 and were blessed with two children.
Daisy & Clarence relocated from Jackson, MS to Dayton, OH and Daisy began her teaching career at Colonel White High School. In 1973, Daisy put her teaching career on hold after the birth of her first child. Daisy took great pride in her role as a mother. She was known to chaperone her children's school field trips, help out in their classrooms and school events when needed. Of all her volunteer roles as a mother, her position as the head Girl Scout leader of Troop #1428 was her greatest joy. Daisy started Troop #1428 in 1981 with a group of kindergarteners (Cookie Capers) and led the troop until 1994 when the girls made Senior Scout rank and all graduated from Trotwood-Madison High School.

While juggling motherhood, Daisy decided to return to the workforce in 1991 when she began working as a substitute teacher at Trotwood-Madison Junior High School. This position resulted in her being hired as a full-time teacher, where she remained employed until her retirement in 2011. Due to her passion for education and genuine love for students, Daisy remained active at the Junior High by providing home instruction to students from 2012 to 2015. Daisy maintained her devotion to Christ as she was a long time member of Phillips Temple CME Church having joined in the early 1970's.

Daisy is survived by her husband Clarence Harold Brown, son Bandele Amen Yobachi El (Dorothy), daughter O. Muminah
Jackson (Emir); three brothers, Michael Washington (Katherine), Curtis Washington Jr. (Tiffiney), Norris Washington (Jewel); two sisters, Kim Wade (Darrin), Tinika Harmon (Chris); sister-in-law, Dorothy Washington; granddaughter, Imani Brown; three grandsons, Emir Jackson Jr., Aden Jackson, Itembe Amen-Ra Yobachi El and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and long time beloved friends.
