Curtis was born in Oxnard California on August 28, 1952 raised in Key West Fla. He passed away peacefully at his home in Dayton, Ohio with family around him. Curtis has left this life to be with the Lord and reunite with family in heaven on 6/2/21.
He served his country in the Army Airborne Division 1969-1972. Curtis loved his Music and being a minister, recording artist, song writer, entertainer, lead singer and having many bands. He formed Switch '77 Band where he met his Shirley cakes.
Curtis is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Gartenmayer, Sr.; mother, Eloise Gartenmayer; and sister, Mary Brewer.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley of 15 years; his daughters Tammy (Gary) Houshel, Debbie (Chris) Bryant, Patty Gartenmayer, Rebekah Gartenmayer-Tillman; and stepson, Shannon Campbell; surviving siblings; Joseph Edward Jr. (Ida), Gudelia Goody (Ralph) Estevez; and numerous nieces and cousins from Key West, Fla.
Curtis has 9 grand-children, Sarah, Jamie (Josh), Symantha (Jay), Gary Jr. (Samantha) , Bradley (Julia), David (Alyssa), Alyssa Herrera, Brenden, and JoJo. Curtis has 8 Great grand-children; Connor, Caleb, Jadyn, Hunter, Chelsea, and Declan, Syvanah, and Jaykob. He was very proud and loved them all.
Special thanks to his family and friends who supported him and Shirley all these years, great friends Wayne Seibert, Tim Burchfield, Debbie Tinch, Randy Dunlavy, Charles Fultz, Derek Freshour, Rachel Chadwick, Jerry Greer, Pastor William Laudermilk and his church, along with his Hospice staff and nurses. So many more we want to thank.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Way of the Cross Church, 612 Beatrice Dr., Dayton, OH 45404. Family and friends may visit at the church from 12:00pm until the time of service. A private burial with the family will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
