HENDERSON, Courtland M., age 95, passed away on August 22, 2011 at his home in the Sycamore Glen Retirement Center in Miamisburg, Ohio. Born September 2, 1915 in Sullivan, Indiana to the late Courtland and Martha (Shireman) Henderson.
He is preceded in death by his loving first wife of 53 years, Juanita Ford Henderson, who passed away in October 1993. Remarried in 1995, Courtland's devoted second wife, Thelma Henderson preceded him as well in February 2011. After winning the Sherman Scholarship in 1936, "Court" proudly graduated with honors from Purdue University in 1940 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
In college, he was an undefeated welterweight boxer. His career spanned four companies in Indiana, New York, Missouri and Ohio. He retired from Mound Lab, Monsanto Research Company, Dayton, Ohio in 1979 with over 32 patents and trade secrets in his name. Eventually he formed, ran and ultimately sold a small company called Site-Tac, Inc. before fully retiring. Court was active in scouting, church, dancing and especially excelled at golf, even winning the Dayton Seniors Olympic Golf Championship age 90+ category in May 2006.
He is survived by two cherished sons and their wives (Dave & Betty Henderson of Punta Gorta, Florida and Mark & Sandy Henderson of Kokomo, Indiana), one beloved daughter and her husband (Sue & Bob Vogel of Dayton, Ohio), four grandchildren and their spouses (Greg & Lynne Vogel, Jeff & Kristina Vogel, Cassie & Joe Books, Jennie & Greg Rhees); eight great-grandchildren (Cole, Hayley, Jacob, Casey, Isa, Ava, Krissy and Evie); two step-daughters and their husbands (Joanne & James Reichart, Connie & James Schwanegel) and many special friends.
Memorial services to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio, on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment at family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Hospice of Dayton.
