Colleen Rose Burns

Colleen Rose Burns, age 60 of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at Hospice of Dayton. She was born November 2, 1962 in St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of the late Melvin and Thelma Peterson of Axtell, Kansas.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her nephew, Joel Knight and mother-in-law, Margaret Lardin.

Colleen graduated from Axtell High School in the Class of 1981. She attended Kansas State and graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For nearly 30 years, Colleen has worked as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Greene Memorial, Good Samaritan and Soin. Most recently, she worked as a PACU Nurse at Kettering Hospital.

Colleen was a natural caregiver, she was a strong nurse with a heart of gold; calm and capable even in the most stressful situations, she cared for everyone around her.

Colleen is survived by her husband of 40 years, John Burns; son, Michael Lin; sister, Gloria (Jim) Knight of Seneca, Kansas; sister-in-law, Lois Burns; brother-in-law, Bob Prunty; close friend, Billie (Joe) Morter and many other loving relatives and friends.

Anyone who knew Colleen, knew how much she loved her dogs. She spared no expense caring for her four legged babies, all of whom were rescues. She was preceded in death by Puggy (Pug); Shadow (German Shepherd Husky); Chancey (Pitbull Lab); Romeo (Red Nose Pitbull); Marley (Red Nose Pitbull); Josie (Ragdoll Cat). All of whom will be laid to rest with her. She is survived by Abigail Rose (Pitbull) and Titan (Pitbull Hound). Both of whom will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Colleen will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton following the service.
