Col. Richard S. Christopher, age 95 of Dayton, flew his final mission with his co-pilot, God, to Heaven on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born May 16, 1923 in Percival, IA, the son of the late Alfred and Crystal Christopher and step-son of Nina Christopher.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Rachel Christopher; son, Rusty Christopher; grandson, Michael Christopher; and sister, Dorothy Wyatt.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard (Sherry) Christopher Jr., Randy (Cathy) Christopher, Ronald Christopher, Rhonda (Rick) Hunter; sister, Kay Buckles; grandchildren, Sean, Rick, Tim, Stuart, Brooklyn; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Richard is a retired Colonel with the United States Air Force. He served as a fighter pilot in WWII, and subsequently served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Once he retired from the Air Force, he was a tennis pro for Englewood Tennis Club for a number of years.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 1:45 pm at Dayton National Cemetery, with military honors, where he will be laid to rest with his wife.
